AECOM Transit & Rail is seeking a
Deputy Director, Western Canada Rail to drive performance of our experienced team.

Featuring a flexible work arrangement and a wealth of growth opportunities, you'll be a key part of Canada's largest rail consulting team, supporting both transit and freight rail clients.

To be successful in this management-focused role, you will have the following characteristics:

  • Well-rounded experience including successfully delivering safety, quality, budget, and schedule in both management and technical roles.
  • Ability to balance upwards of 75 ongoing projects and tasks with competing priorities.
  • Experience contributing to multidisciplinary transit and rail design and construction projects.
  • Very strong understanding of project management principles and procedures.
  • Experience as a people manager, including recruitment, hiring, retention, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and relationshipbuilding skills, particularly working with remotely distributed teams.
  • Embrace change, tackle new or unusual challenges, and find solutions through innovation.

Daily tasks may include:

  • Opportunity & Project Management
  • Awareness of all active projects within the region and their general status.
  • Proactively identify potential problems, and step in to take corrective actions when facing performance issues, such as poor utilization, margin erosion, schedule delays, client claims, and so forth.
  • Summarize projects and opportunities across the region for reporting and planning purposes.
  • Manage Salesforce entries and pipeline forecasts.
  • Develop, simplify and standardize management processes and find other workflow efficiencies.
  • Assist with client account management, including contract enforcement, rate table maintenance, and similar tasks.
  • Promote work sharing within the region. Develop connections with other regions and Business Lines for work sharing opportunities.
  • Lead more complex pursuits requiring RFPA/Risk Committee submissions and contract negotiations.
  • Guide team members on best practices and strategically navigating AECOM's systems & processes.
  • Have an indepth understanding of AECOM's Project Delivery System, Approval Matrix, Subcontracting/Coupa, Workbench, ABC/APIC Online, DocuSign CLM, Salesforce CRM.
  • Have familiarity with client systems, such as Ariba, CN Supplier Portal, Fieldglass.
  • People Management
  • In general, be the supervisor for First-Level Supervisors and/or Senior Specialists.
  • Set positive examples, and ensure completion of safety and other training.
  • Direct the Performance & Rewards process.
  • Balance workload and utilization across the region.
  • Identify shortterm and longterm staffing needs. Proactively suggest headcount increase/reduction measures.
  • Technical
  • Ensure compliance with QC/QA procedures and conduct random project documentation audits.
  • Contribute to technical deliverables commensurate with experience and background.
  • Visit client offices and field locations for assessing opportunities, and develop highlevel technical delivery strategies.
This position may be based out Burnaby, Calgary, Edmonton, or Winnipeg.

Time spent in the office and field may be required, however AECOM embraces work from home arrangements when it works for you, our company, and our clients.


Qualifications Minimum Requirements**- Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent.

  • 6 Years of Transit & Rail Consulting & Management Experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years Transit & Rail experience.
  • MBA
  • P.Eng.
  • PMP
  • Strong familiarity with Canadian client standards and processes (AREMA, CN, CPKC, BNSF, Translink, Calgary Transit, Edmonton Transit, Metrolinx, etc.).
  • Extensive professional network in the transit & rail industry.
