    Senior Accountant

    Construx Building Products is a lumber supply and pre-fabrication business operating in Alberta and Saskatchewan. We have an exciting opportunity to work with our team as a Senior Accountant. This position is based at our location in Saskatoon.

    The Senior Accountant manages all aspects of the reporting and analytics of the company's accounting system. The Senior Accountant plays a strategic role in the management of the business through forecasting, providing budgetary recommendations and supporting the growth of our Saskatchewan and Alberta operations by providing real-time analysis of the company's financial position. The Senior Accountant is a collaborative team player, focused on the strategic objectives of the company ideally through their in-depth knowledge of the industry and keen business acumen.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversight of all day-to-day accounting including AP/AR, job cost accounting, payroll and cash flow management
    • Month-end reconciliations and other month-end close procedures
    • Produce monthly financial statements and year end financials
    • Develop and maintain system of internal accounting controls and financial reporting
    • Budgeting, forecasting and analysis
    • Work with management and accounting team to ensure clients are billed accurately and on a timely basis and that receivables are monitored and collected on a timely basis
    • Work with Senior Management to ensure financial directives are followed
    • Assist in software setup and updates
    • Management of company overhead expenses / personal expenses / credit card reconciliations
    • Centralize finance operations and implement efficiencies through automation, software functionality and streamlining processes
    • Tracking key performance indicators
    • Prepare all corporate remittances
    • Communicating effectively and working collaboratively with leadership team and staff across different departments
    • Preparation and review of year-end working papers for the external auditors and tax advisors
    • Development and improvement of the systems within the accounting department
    • Analysis of capital investment decisions including preparing business cases for proposed expenditures outside of approved budget
    • Work with team members from all parts of the business to review existing policies and procedures to support enhanced productivity and efficiency
    • Support interactions with key relationships, including advisors, clients, vendors and bankers
    • Providing accurate and timely financial reporting as a basis for strategic growth management
    • Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements (consolidated and by branch) and provide key insights to management, including:
      • Horizontal analysis against prior months / same month in prior year
      • Actual vs Budget (monthly and YTD)
      • Monthly bank reporting, and Bank covenant internal tracking
      • Explanations of significant variances, corrective/mitigating actions
      • Margin calculation by major Revenue Streams (Resale, Manufacturing)
    • Work with management to achieve Company results through developing budgets and cashflow projections in collaboration with leadership team and monitoring progress on a regular basis.
    • Liaise and assist any external government auditors such as PST, GST
    • All aspects of day-to-day accounting including AP/AR, job cost accounting, payroll and cash flow management
    • Oversight of monthly / quarterly inventory counts
    • Management of junior accountant role - mentorship, performance evaluation and delegation / review of work
    • Other duties as required within the Accounting Department

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting/Finance
    • CPA designation is preferable but not required
    • 3-5 years in an Accounting Manager or Controller position
    • Lumber industry experience is an asset.
    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with an ability to prioritize important tasks
    • Deadline-oriented with a strong attention to detail
    • Knowledge of Quickbooks, BisTrack / Epicor, Transaction Pro Importer and ADP payroll is preferable
    • Must be highly knowledgeable in all aspects of general ledger and financial reporting
    • In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, legislation and employment standards is required
    • Experience dealing with banks and financial institutions
    • Must be proficient in Office 365 with strong knowledge of MS Excel
