Description
We are looking for a Legislative Assistant to provide support for the Member's Legislative Responsibilities. Political writing and stakeholder engagement will be an important part of your job.

In this role, you should possess strong written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail and an understanding of provincial politics.


Responsibilities:


  • Draft and edit communications political writing (e.g. member's statements, speeches, press releases, quotes, meeting briefs, social media posts)
  • Support the development and drafting of Private Member's Bills
  • Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies
  • Maintain stakeholder databases and media lists
  • Track projects and media exposure
  • Prepare presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Work with constituency office team to organize and execute community events.
  • Accompany and/or represent the MPP at legislative and community functions. This may include liaising with stakeholders, delivering verbal remarks, and presenting congratulatory certificates.
  • Work evenings and/or weekends as required with the MPP or on his behalf (e.g. for events, meetings, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • Understanding of political language, professional communications and digital media strategies.
  • Knowledge of the structure and policies of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario and a fundamental knowledge of the role of the three levels of government.
  • Solid research and editing skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication abilities (oral, written and verbal)
  • Processdriven, highly accountable and sense of urgency for deliverables; Ability to thrive in an office that is fastpaced, challenging, and constantly changing.
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with graphic design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign) and content management systems is a plus
  • Must be flexible to attend evening and weekend events with the MPP or on his behalf.
  • Specific knowledge of significant cultures and languages within the constituency is an asset.
Experience/Education

  • Postsecondary education.
  • Key words: writing, public relations, social media, policy
  • Political Knowledge or Experience

Job Type:
Full-Time Permanent. Government benefits are included following the probationary period


Pay:
$45,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
