The Position:

We are currently hiring two Summer Recreation Workers. Reporting to the Recreation Worker III, the Recreation Worker assists with the planning and coordination of summer recreational programs.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Take a leadership role in organizing and planning recreational events and activities.
  • Establish work experience for adolescents, provide training in job readiness skills, work with and supervise the adolescents in these work situations.
  • Provide direct services in the recreational area through planning, coordinating and implementing specialized recreation activities and programs.
  • Take part in campus and communitybased recreation programs as required.
  • Contribute to the evaluation if the overall summer programs.

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Leadership and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to initiate activities and to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience or certification in outdoor pursuits, physical recreation and vocational experience.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, children and all contacts.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.
  • Crosscultural competence; knowledge of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the recommendations, goals and activities of the commission.
  • A Police Information Check, which includes a vulnerable sector search, is required (or is in process of being completed) prior to employment.
  • A Child Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive Agency vehicles is preferred (min. 21 years of age and 2 years driving experience with a class 5/GDL class 5 license).
  • Formal educational experience in the human services field would be considered an asset.
  • Completion of ASIST, First Aid, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and Certified with CYCAA would be considered an asset.
  • Must be eligible for Canada Summer Jobs program funding (between 19 and 30 years of age, Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Refugee Protection Status) and must have confirmation of enrollment in postsecondary studies for Fall 2024.
