Job description

Reporting to the Community Impact Centre Manager, this position is responsible for developing and delivering programs offered through the Community Impact Centre. The role oversees daily operations, administration, staff scheduling, and the coordination of activities related to securing, setting up, and supporting the Centre's programs and services.

This position provides clear communication and motivation to employees, volunteers, and external partners, ensuring alignment with The Mustard Seed's vision and contributing to the overall success of the Centre. The role also includes support for the oversight of Brian's Café.

Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent
Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 8:00AM - 4:00PM/ Tuesday at 10:00AM - 6:00PM, minimum of two additional evening a month, occasional weekends, and providing coverage when staff is unavailable.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Community Impact Centre and Brian's Cafe
  • Develop, facilitate, and implement programs that support and nurture the community
  • Ensure that all employees and volunteers have the appropriate training for the programs they are involved in
  • Provide leadership and direction to employees and volunteers
  • Support the dignity of our guests by seeking to identify their needs in a respectful manner
  • Take initiative to assess situations and make appropriate decisions to support employees and guests
  • Collaborate with Community Impact Centre Manager to create and monitor budget costs related to programs and café
  • Lead participants and volunteers involved in the programs
  • Ensure a safe, respectful environment for all guests, employees, volunteers and visitors
  • Collect data and generate reports on statistics as required
  • Build and nurture relationships with external partners and stakeholders
  • Ensure all materials and equipment needed for programs are in good working order
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators and assessment tools for various programs and ensure that these are recorded/met
  • Liaise with key departments (Housing, Wellness, and Employment) to recruit and support staffing needs
  • Develop and conduct evaluations to determine effectiveness of program activities
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism
  • Abide by all Health and Safety protocols and procedures ( incident reports, near misses etc.), and mandatory training courses (NVCI, SafeTalk, First Aid)
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • An undergraduate degree in Social Work or related field or equivalent level of experience
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working in community development initiatives
  • Understanding or have interest in Social Enterprise model
  • Front-line experience and understanding of vulnerable populations
  • Knowledge within the field of community development and community resilience initiatives
  • Demonstrated ability to engage, communicate, and work effectively with a diverse range of people from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Experienced with developing and encouraging staff to come up with creative solutions to complex challenges and problem
  • Must be self-directed and have the ability to work independently as required
  • Effective meeting facilitation skills as well as multi-tasking and administrative skills
  • Well-developed organizational, time management, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated effective conflict management and networking skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle with a minimum of $2,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean drivers abstract

 WORKING CONDITIONS 

  • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian Ministry, we require our employees sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith
  • This position requires flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Minimal to moderate physical effort requiredOn-call shifts may be required
  • Fast paced and demanding work environmentLifting, traveling, sitting, standing, walking, and driving personal vehicle required as part of this role
  • Potential for exposure to vicarious trauma
  •  Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements, and other insults at your person. This may in a raised voice, or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive
    •  Training on how to respond is provided, but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments 

This position requires the use of a personal vehicle for company use and a company Vehicle. The candidate must have a valid driver's licence, maintain $2M Vehicle Liability insurance on the vehicle being used and consent to a driver's abstract request.
