    What you'll do

    The CTC Personalization, Customer & Digital Analytics team is the central hub for engaging consumers with exciting and inspirational loyalty and product offers through better use of customer data, driving incremental sales and profit.

    The Data Science, Applied AI & Data Products/ Operations team at Canadian Tire designs, develops and automates customer-facing data products and services. These products and services enable and power customer-focused analytical solutions that add business value. The diverse and dynamic team consists of data scientists, engineers, developers and analysts united by a common goal to enhance customer and brand experience across the corporation. The team utilizes the latest data technologies and advanced analytical techniques to build best in class products and services that are embedded within the fabric of the business. The team is responsible for targeting CTC's more than 11 million active loyalty customers with personalized offers across Canadian Tire, Sport Check, Mark's, Party City, L'Equipeur, Sports Experts and Atmosphere.

    We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join our team. Leveraging the latest data technologies and advanced analytical techniques, this team designs, develops, and automates customer-facing data products and services. Made up of data scientists, engineers, developers and analysts, the team is laser-focused on creating a portfolio of best-in-class products and services that fuel customer-focused analytics and enhance customer and brand experience.

    About you

    Data is your strong suit. You are technically minded, detail-oriented and keep up-to-date on automation trends. You communicate effectively to different audiences, and you can build strong cross-functional partnerships to drive collaboration and innovation. In this role, you will:

    • Understand the business case for data and the stakeholder's requirements to support work processes and strategic business objectives
    • Develop and optimize existing and new data products
    • Design and implement data pipelines to monitor, validate model assumptions and performance adhering to best-in-class coding standards
    • Develop and optimize existing and new data pipelines to standardize and automate
    • Identify and troubleshoot technical issues as they arise with an entrepreneurial mindset, and provide scalable resolution with follow-through
    • Work on ad-hoc projects that leverage multiple internal and external sources of data such as sales, inventory, cost, digital analytics, loyalty, driving patterns, etc.
    • Work with IT and business stakeholders to influence decision making with data and data products

    Skills and qualifications

    • B.S. in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Statistics or Computer Science. Equivalent experience also considered.
    • 1+ years of professional work experience or internship in data domain
    • Strong knowledge of SQL to perform complex data analysis
    • Experience with Python / Spark or other languages to transform and process data
    • Working knowledge / experience in building machine learning and mathematical models
    • Strong command of statistics
    • Ability to translate business requirements into technical analytical specifications
    • Balance of technical and business acumen, including modeling and strategic business case development

    Bonus points if you have experience with

    • Data intelligence and visualization platforms such as Looker, Google Data Studio, Tableau or other tools
    • Data technologies and analytics platforms such as Hadoop, Azure, GCP, Big Query, Power BI, Data Studio, Airflow, Snowflake, etc.
