THE OPPORTUNITY


In collaboration with the CFO and Managing Director, the Director of Internal Control and Risk Management plays a leadership role in the areas of internal audit and risk management and contributes to effective governance practices across the organization.

In their work, the Director of Internal Control and Risk Management, provides thought and practice leadership to feminist approaches to strong internal control systems and risk management, upholding EF's organizational values and trust based approach to working with our partners, who are mainly women's rights and feminist organizations around the world.

The Director of Internal Control and Risk Management oversees and manages EF's day to day internal control, audit, and risk functions, ensuring strong internal controls, risk identification and mitigation, monitoring, and reporting are in place across the organization's programs and operations.


SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Internal Control & Audit (50%)_
  • Develops and manages an internal audit program, plan, and procedures for the organization.
  • Develops and implements comprehensive internal control policies and procedures to safeguard the organizational assets.
  • Collaborates closely with Equality Fund program pillars to develop specific internal control procedures and audit plans, including global grantmaking (and downstream partners), as well as the investment program.
  • Identifies risk areas of concern and/or control deficiencies and identifies areas of improvement, while bringing them to the attention of the Executive Office and Finance Audit and Risk Committee of the Board of Directors, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates internal audits and assessments and, when necessary, manages the full cycle of a fraud investigation.
  • Fosters a culture of awareness and adherence to EF's policies and procedures, for example, the antifraud policy, and maintenance of relevant documentation.
  • Identifies and manages external consultants related to audit and risk functions including EF's third party whistleblower service provider.
  • Risk Management (20%)_
  • Provides thought and practice leadership to feminist approach to managing risk.
  • In collaboration with the CFO and Managing Director, facilitates thorough internal risk assessment processes, including managing the annual risk register and quarterly risk review and reporting.
  • Acts in accordance with our policies around nurturing a safe and respectful work environment; never engaging in harassment, coercion, sexual exploitation or abuse of any form, or anything else contrary to our code of conduct.
  • Team Collaboration (10%)_
  • Acts as a trusted and respected colleague, providing internal control/audit and risk management counsel and support to managers and staff as requested to embed a riskaware culture within the organization.
  • Participates in relevant crossorganizational working group, ie. operations group, fluid teams.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Governance (10%)_
  • In collaboration with the Executive Office, contributes to the delivery of the annual governance workplan.
  • Provides senior leadership with reports and materials for the Equality Fund Board of Directors and relevant Board Committees.
  • Provides verbal and written reports, directly to the Finance Audit and Risk Committee Chair, as well as the opportunity to meet the Committee in camera.

QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES

  • At least six years of progressive work experience in the area of internal audit and/ or risk management
  • Strong internal audit and risk management experience, especially in the context of international development, social justice, and human rights funding.
  • Strong problem identification and valuesaligned resolution skills
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Sound strategic and analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Flexible and adaptive, able to respond appropriately in high pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanour
  • Prior experience working collaboratively with other departments building teams and managing change
  • Demonstrated experience working with Global south
