Role:
Responsible for the administration of payroll activities for approximately 300 employees.

This includes ensuring employee remunerations are timely and accurate, employee concerns are addressed, and the administration of employee related programs such as Workers Compensation, EI, CPP, Income Tax, Group Insurance, Blue Cross, etc.

for Sunrise Poultry Processors Ltd, Carleton Hatcheries and Sunrise Livehaul.


Responsibilities:


  • Review daily Time & Attendance report after the designated plant personnel has made adjustments and submit to payroll assistant for inputting in the computer. Reconcile the Daily Labour Cost Summary Reports after inputting adjustments, distribute the labor cost summary reports and production efficiency reports to management.
  • Process company payroll biweekly: 1) run weekly Hours Input Report, review the report before converting the time; 2) make necessary changes to paidout vacation pay, garnishee deductions, union dues and union initiation fees, Blue Cross, and input salaried employees pay into the system; 3) verify information before transmitting the information to the bank for direct deposits; 4) prepare pay stubs, manual or computerized cheques for distribution; and 5) issue employment insurance records of employment at time of termination, maternity/parental leaved and illness.
  • Prepare Worker's Compensation forecasted earnings on an annual basis. Remit installment payments of premiums on an annual basis.
  • Maintain a wide variety of payroll information, employee files and records in written and/or electronic format for the purpose of providing an uptodate reference and audit trail for compliance.
  • Prepare reports or statements for remittances and payments such as Payroll tax, income tax, EI, CPP, Group Insurance, Blue Cross, Savings Bonds, Union Dues, etc.
  • Monitor absenteeism and prepare daily reports.
  • Reconcile account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual salesman commission reports and process for payments.
  • File union membership and send notification of terminations; prepare and submit seniority report on a semiannual basis; and advise dental office of new employees, employee changes, leave of absence or terminations.
  • Prepare and reconcile all yearend employee related information schedules including required government reports
  • T4s, T4 summaries, payroll tax, source deductions, WCB, etc.
  • Administer company benefit plan, ensuring all forms and information are maintained and reported to the proper authorities as required.
  • Administer staff purchase deductions of company products.
  • Payroll accounting such as journal entries and reporting.
  • Prepare and submit Statistics Canada reports related to payroll.
  • Supervise assigned personnel for the purpose of enhancing productivity of staff, and ensuring departmental objectives are achieved. Oversee the workload of assigned personnel for the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of work and meeting objectives.

Requirements:


  • Familiarity with the Ceridian Dayforce payroll program.
  • Familiarity working with a unionized workforce and ability to interpret the collective agreement.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the policies, practices and procedures, collective agreement provisions, terms and conditions of employment and government regulations pertaining to the administration of payroll and leave management.
  • Sound accounting knowledge.
  • Ability to analyze problems and communicate effectively both verbal and written.
  • Ability to assign work based on employee's abilities and effectively communicate tasks and expectations to assigned staff.
  • Very good interpersonal skills and an ability to treat all staff professionally and have an aptitude for dealing with various individuals.
  • Ability to exercise discretion, tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with difficult situations and people.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities, adhere to deadlines and work well with others in accomplishing objectives.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of an AS 400 environment is an asset.
