  • 0.8 FTE supporting students with various needs in an upper elementary classroom.


Our Lady of Prairies school is seeking an Educational Assistant to support a group of students in their elementary classroom.

The position is temporary ending June 30th, 2024 and requires working 28 hours per week.


The job works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to assist students in learning and developing skills in the areas of socialization, communication, and behavior.

The job also provides general support in the classroom.


Responsibilities:


  • Assist teacher with planning, preparing, and implementing programs to meet student needs
  • Organize classroom materials, activities, equipment, and programs
  • Assist multidisciplinary team with the implementation of developmental strategies
  • Behaviour management
  • Provide a range of personal and physical care
  • Assist coworkers during peak periods and absences

Qualifications:


  • High School diploma plus certificate/diploma in an area related to early childhood education or special needs education, plus one year directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and qualifications
  • Knowledge of intervention techniques and strategies, first aid, CPR, and administering medication
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Word, Outlook, and the internet
  • Ability to communicate with sensitivity, diplomacy, and tact is essential
  • Ability to effectively communicate in the English language both oral and written with the ability to develop and maintain communication with students, teachers, and specialists;
  • Fluency in French is an asset
