Reporting to the Director, Student Success, the incumbent is responsible for leading a coordinated continuum of support for student flourishing through peer-to
- peer and student success advising services. The incumbent will provide strategic guidance and operational oversight to the Student Success Advisor (SSA) and Peer Development teams and provides leadership for programs and services that increase student retention, persistence and graduation through peer mentoring and advising services college-wide.


The Manager works collaboratively with the student transition and engagement, mental health and wellbeing, global engagement, student and learning services and student life teams, as well as academic leaders and faculty, and establishes partnerships to augment student services and supports.


Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Student Success Advising

  • Leads and manages the provision of 'direct service' advising for students, emphasizing proactive and responsive developmentally appropriate advising across the student lifecycle.
  • Ensures student support during academic transitions, social integration and academic engagement.
  • Accountable for maintaining advising team currency of knowledge, practices and resources in the academic areas, academic procedures, college services and retention and advising strategies.
  • Implements continuous improvement initiatives and projects including the development of standard operating procedures, and strategic planning activities
  • Provides leadership and support surrounding the development of policies, practices, and professional development that advances the student success advising strategy, and contributes to overall student success
  • Provides functional leadership, guidance and support to SSA's on student cases with complex transitional needs
  • Responsible for the ongoing implementation and development of EAB Navigate processes for the student advising care unit
  • Supports the Director in leveraging the EAB Navigate system and the data generated by EAB Navigate as a retention tool that aids with continuous improvement of student success advising services; prepares reports to showcase data and trends
  • Collaborates with advisor leadership colleagues at other colleges for best practices to assist daily support/interactions with students or remain current with strategies to support at risk students

Peer-to-peer mentoring

  • Directs the design and implementation of mentoring programs for students to support peer inclusion with a focus on first year transition and student belonging
  • Makes decisions regarding mentorship practices, including the development of tools and impact metrics and outcomes, with the goal of supporting the continued improvement of service delivery.
  • Collaborates with college departments that also offer peer to peer roles to oversee and facilitate common competency development, training and onboarding processes
  • Leads and advises peer development staff in the development and implementation of procedures/policies and initiates systems and the development of services to support student flourishing.
  • Oversees the development and execution of communication strategies for the program across all campus locations and virtually

Leadership and Management

  • Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns such as predictive analytics or marked change in behaviors using the results to build and develop appropriate, supportive retention interventions to help mitigate the risk of attrition
  • Ensures timely and accurate data reporting that aligns with the student success team's Standard Operating Procedures. Data reports will be shared with SLT to inform and measure strategic outcomes.
  • Manages financial resources, and ensures that staff perform their assigned duties consistently with College procedures and Collective Agreements
  • Maintains high levels of staff performance through effective recruiting, selecting, training, developing, motivating and evaluating staff
  • Develops and provides professional development to direct reports through regular coaching, career planning and proactive performance management
  • Ensures effective and efficient allocation of fiscal, human, and physical resources within the portfolio, including monitoring, analysing, reviewing, and optimizing program performance
  • Collaborates with other Student Service colleagues and college partners, supporting special events and extracurricular programming that occurs oncampus (e.g. orientation, open houses, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Successfully completed a threeyear diploma / degree in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to Advising, Education/Sociology of Education, Psychology
