Hatchery Technician - Mossley, Canada - Gladstone Hatchery

At Gladstone Hatchery we strive to produce the highest quality product for national distribution. We are looking for someone passionate about shrimp, as you will be interacting with them daily. Our facility operates using recirculation aquaculture systems, general knowledge of these systems would be a major asset.


Responsibilities:

• Water quality and maintence of water parameters.
• Take care of the general operation of the hatchery.
• Assist with the collection and distribution of eggs and shrimp.
• Carry out daily culture activities, such as feeding, cleaning, and sampling.
• Perform routine maintenance including tank cleaning and equipment maintenance.
• Track data and prepare reports.
• Be responsible for facility control as required, such as on weekends or holidays.
• Maintainging biosecurity measures.
• Required to be oncall in case of emergency at the hatchery.
• Physically fit to stand, lift, carry 50 lbs., and to do repetitive work in hot or cold, wet environment, both indoors and outdoors.
• Selfstarter and able to work independently
• Ability to work efficiently at repetitive tasks

How do I qualify?

Mandatory requirement:

• A reliable vehicle.
• A criminal record check may be provided before the first day of work and a further security check may be required.

Technical knowledge:

• You are knowledgeable of aquaculture techniques and hatchery methods and procedures.
• You possess knowledge of the roles, goals and objectives of hatcheries management.
• You possess working knowledge of facility maintenance and repair.

Essential skills:

• You have demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with our team.
• You possess proven analytical and problem solving skills.
• You have strong organizational and time management skills.
• You are proficient with computers and related spreadsheet, database and word processing software.
• You are able to work independantly.

Bonus skills:

• Knowledge of fluid mechanics.
• Aquaculture industy experience.

Salary:
$18.00-$20.00 per hour
