***:Under the supervision of the Youth Move Program Coordinator, the Youth Move Specialist is responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of youth activities within their designated area of responsibility as well as the fulfillment of assigned administrative duties.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Develops and implements youth activities for dropin, special events, and virtual programming.
  • Acts as a special skill resource person for other departments and community partner programs as required.
  • Assists the Program Coordinator in administrative duties such as planning of program activities, development of work schedules, a requisition and purchase of supplies, equipment/supplies control, etc.
  • Receives and answers public inquiries in an enthusiastic and positive manner, which enhances the image of youth in the Youth Move Program and the department.
  • Abides by and enforces all Youth Move rules and regulations with respect to staff and participants.
  • Implements safety procedures and ensures standards are met in all phases of Youth Move operations.
  • Ensures sites are clean and organized ahead of participant arrival by sanitizing, conducting a site check, and cleaning the space.
  • Assists the Program Coordinator in supporting those who volunteer in or with the Youth Move Program.
  • Actively supports and encourages youth who have disabilities to participate in Youth Move programming.
  • Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings.
  • Plans and attends professional development training sessions.
  • Updates and develops the Youth Move Manual in cooperation with the Program Coordinator.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relations with other Youth Move Staff as well as with all community contacts.
  • Plans and attends special events and actively participates in activities.
  • Assists the Program Coordinator upon request in the resolution of the Youth Move Program problems.
  • Assists in promoting Youth Move via social media and conducting public relations activities i.e., school visits, flyer distribution, etc.
  • Assists in the development of promotional materials including newsletters, flyers and posters to be distributed to participants and community members.
  • Supports in mentoring youth participants through means of oneonone rapport building and providing referrals to services.
  • Meets with and reports to the Program Supervisor of Children, Youth & Strategic Initiatives as required.
  • Compiles photos of participants, events and other Youth Move activities for the use of promotion.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:


  • Secondary school diploma;
  • Two years' recent experience in community recreation programming;
  • Proven leadership experience;
  • Proven leadership experience in area of specialization, for example, youth work, special events, arts, sports and games, and outdoor recreation

Skill/Abilities:


  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Selfstarter with proven organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve and make required decisions
  • Responsibility, enthusiasm, creativity, initiative, motivation and willingness to learn
  • Proven ability to function and contribute as an effective team member
  • Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:


  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
  • Must have and maintain a Standard First Aid and CPR-C certificate
  • Must provide proof of full COVID19 vaccination at point of conditional offer
  • Will be required to travel to various work locations and provide own transportation
