    Your Opportunity:

    The Dietitian I is a frontline professional position within Nutrition Services (NS) reporting to the Manager, NFLES, Chronic Disease Management. This position is a casual position providing casual coverage within the Chronic Disease Portfolio including: the Calgary Adult Bariatric Surgery Program, , Alberta Kidney Care South, chronic kidney disease, dialysis (peritoneal, hemodialysis, home hemodialysis). It may also include coverage other clinical areas including diabetes outpatients and diabetes in pregnancy, chronic pain, osteopororsis, and tranplant including renal, heart, liver and lung transplant. Shifts may include evenings and will include peak vacation times including summer, Christmas holidays and school breaks. The ideal candidate will have full time availability. This position include providing both individual and group education in a multidisciplinary setting. Both inperson and virtual care is provided. The Dietitian participates as an integral member of the interprofessional team. The Dietitian is responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of client/ patient care plans in chronic disease management. The Dietitian acts as liaison between Nutrition Services and AHS programs, services and teams. The Dietitian provides nutrition expertise to internal and external stakeholders, and translates research findings in the field of nutrition for clients/patients, professionals and the public. The Dietitian uses nutrition counseling, behavioral change theories/strategies, or health promotion/population strategies as appropriate to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. The position supports nutrition education and training of staff or other key stakeholders to ensure delivery of consistent, accurate, evidence based nutrition information.

    Description:

    As a Dietitian I, you may provide nutrition expertise to patients (clients, residents) in various AHS facilities and community settings to achieve nutrition and health outcomes. You may be responsible for nutrition assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of nutrition care plans. You may plan and provide public health nutrition services and education programs to promote healthy living and disease prevention for clients/groups in facilities or community settings. Nutrition education is provided to students and other healthcare professionals to support delivery of evidence based nutrition information.

    Required Qualifications:

    Bachelor of Science with a major in Foods and Nutrition. Completion of an internship program or practicum training program accredited by the Dietitians of Canada. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Alberta (CDA).

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge, skills and judgment required for independent practice. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with colleagues and clients as a member of a team. Evidence of effective client interviewing, counseling skills in individual and group setting. Demonstrates initiative, accountability, good time management, decision-making ability and strong organizational skills. Proficient use of personal computers for database, word processing, electronic medical records and spreadsheet applications.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience in outpatient/ambulatory care settings preferred.Experience working with bariatric surgery/obese clients preferred. Experience working with renal patients across the care spectrum preferred. Experience working with client with diabetes (GDM, type I and type 2) preferred.Experience working with pregnant clients preferred.
