    Job Duties
  • 1. Qualified applicants will be responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction in the traditional areas of building systems, including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, waste management/recycling, water, energy management, and automation. Additionally, instructors will be expected to cover program specialty areas as determined by the current program requirements.
  • Ability to provide instruction in boiler plant operation and demonstrate proficiency in project management related to shop maintenance.
  • Ability to teach in other program areas is an asset.
  • Manage his/her classroom/lab/activities to ensure an optimum learning environment for students.
  • Follow any academic regulations and/or policies adopted by SaskPolytech and/or Saskatoon Campus.
  • Accommodate students with special learning needs.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities to keep current with industry and educational requirements.
  • Practice good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Work cooperatively with program heads and colleagues in an interdependent "team" environment.
  • Prepare and use appropriate delivery methods for instructing courses as assigned.
  • Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress.
  • Make necessary curriculum adjustments to course content.
  • Attend staff, program and division meetings.
  • Experience and ability to engage in Applied Research and grant funding opportunities.
  • QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE
    Specific Accountabilities

Duties

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

  • Grade 12 or equivalent and a Journeyperson Interprovincial Certificate in a building maintenance/construction trade; (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Journeyperson, Construction Electrician Journeyperson or Plumber Journeyperson are preferred) and a Fourth-Class Power Engineering Interprovincial Certificate.
  • Two years recent/relevant post journeyperson experience in building systems or refrigeration and air conditioning maintenance and repair in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Current and qualifiable trade knowledge on modern building systems and technology (i.e. workshops attended).
  • Ability to function as a team member in an everchanging environment.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Effective instructional skills.
  • Demonstrates valuing diversity.
