is seeking a Solar Engineering Specialist **to join our multi-disciplinary energy and engineering team. This position could be based out of our Kitchener or London, ON offices with opportunities for hybrid work.
Job Summary:
Our team provides a wide range of electrical engineering services across markets sectors including transmission (substations, overhead and underground transmission systems, generator interconnections, interconnection strategy), renewable generation (Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Wind), power distribution (overhead and underground power systems, substations, EV charging networks, microgrid design, etc.), and next generation energy (hydrogen, fuel cells, electrolyzers, etc.).
The focus of the experience must be in the power industry associated with solar engineering and design and their interconnection and distribution systems.
This is an excellent career opportunity for an engineer with a strong technical background and looking to grow into an engineering leadership role.
Major Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Working on utility scale solar projects as well as solar microgrid solutions
Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
Supporting company business development activities as it relates to renewable energy projects
Providing input to management on project resourcing and staff forecasting needs
Monitoring your teams project progress to ensure quality, on-time and on-budget delivery of projects Solar PV system design including array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnections for rooftop, carport, and ground mount (fixed tilt and single-axis tracking) systems
Solar PV system energy production modelling
Developing solar construction and equipment specifications
Engineering calculations (NEC maximum system voltage, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnect requirements, voltage drop, and conduit sizing)
Support drawing production - Solar PV system
One line and three-line diagrams, Cable and Conduit Schedules Bill of Materials PV system cost estimation and payback evaluations DC and low to medium voltage power distribution design
Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
Participating in and presenting engineering work at client meetings
Level specific responsibilities:
Serves as lead solar engineer and Engineer of Record on mid
- to large size solar PV projects
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise, technical expertise for studies and design efforts, and presents complex technical solutions to clients
Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
Participates in development of technical proposals
Provides estimates for the engineering budget and schedule
Reviews, checks and signs off work prepared by team
Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained in all aspects of design work
Qualifications Minimum Requirements**:
BA/BS (Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering preferred) and 2 (two)+ years of experience in electrical design, including solar.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Electrical & System Design
