Specific Job Description

  • Identifying, assessing, prioritizing and exploiting technical and nontechnical opportunities associated with the Surveillance and Navigation products
  • The technical, cost and schedule performance for all systems engineering related work (control accounts) associated with the Surveillance and Navigation products
  • Preparing and presenting reports for internal weekly/monthly program review meetings as they relate to the Surveillance and Navigation products.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited university in systems, software, hardware, mechanical, electrical, electronics engineering or a related Discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience
  • Equivalent experience/combined education will be considered
  • Experience with Systems, Software, Hardware and Maintenance engineering lifecycles
  • Experience with surveillance and navigation systems
  • Communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical members of the engineering and nonengineering staff; including the customer and vendor personnel
  • Aptitude for solving challenging problems in a team environment
  • Have a high degree of initiative and autonomy
  • Have a high learning ability
  • Ability to plan, adapt and perform in a dynamic scheduledriven environment.
  • Highly effective working in a virtual environment when required
  • Good organizational, communication and leadership skills.

Additional skills desired for the role

  • Must be able to participate in regular and nonregular C&SS related meetings with the Customer; sometimes onsite in Halifax or Ottawa.
  • Experience with ship/maritime based surveillance systems and their integration
  • Experience with ship/maritime based navigation systems and their integration
  • Experience with Electromagnetic Interference (EMI)/ Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
  • Experience with information technology infrastructure
  • Experience with Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) domain
  • Experience related to the regulation of ship/maritime surveillance and navigation (e.g., International Maritime Organization (IMO), Lloyd's, Transport Canada (TC), Department of Fisheries/CCG)
  • Experience with Change Management, Requirements Management, Test and trials, Security, Safety
  • Familiarity with of Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) (IBM Rational)
  • Familiarity with Agile methods.
