  • The Coordinator, Growth Strategy will provide leadership and guidance for the Citywide Growth Strategy, a key priority of the Planning and Development Services department. The Coordinator will lead a team of professionals working on all three components of the Citywide Growth Strategy, with a specific focus on the new communities, industrial, and water policy planning components.

Primary duties include:

  • Lead a team of professionals to deliver on the goals of the Citywide Growth Strategy, particularly for new community and industrial areas, as well as water policy planning work related to growth.
  • Work extensively with staff in other City departments, including Directors and General Managers, to achieve common outcomes and goals.
  • Be responsible for facilitating solutionsfocused collaboration with internal and external partners. With others, represent the Citywide Growth Strategy to city building partners.
  • Support the Administrative growth committees, including chairing meetings, working with committee members, giving presentations, and agenda setting.
  • Coach the team on options to address particularly controversial or challenging situations.
  • Foster a supportive team environment by leading and managing through coaching, mentoring, performance management; and ensure that quality service standards and performance targets and deadlines are met.
  • Manage the human resource functions of the section including hiring, coaching and training; career development and performance management; and ensuring quality and service standards are met.

Qualifications

  • A degree in planning, geography, economics, finance or related field with at least 8 years of experience in policy making, strategic planning, land development, infrastructure investment, capital planning, and/or public engagement.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • A graduate degree in one of the above disciplines is considered an asset.
  • The following competencies will be considered assets:
  • Leadership experience managing teams and work programs.
  • Knowledge of city planning policies and development approvals processes.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure and service coordination and delivery.
  • Knowledge of market trends and economic impact analysis.
  • Demonstrated political acumen.
