    Position DescriptionA temporary full time (1.0)

    District Literacy Support Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025. The assignment will be at Learning Services working in the Curriculum Department. Work in schools across the district is also part of this role.

    The role of a Literacy Support Teacher is to demonstrate leadership in literacy by supporting district literacy initiatives, classroom teachers, students and school teams.

    The successful candidate would also collaboratively work on district literary initiatives in support of the SD 60's Framework for Enhancing Student Learning with the District Principal of Curriculum and curriculum team.

    Travel in district is a requirement of this position.

    Qualifications and ExperienceValid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible for)Qualifications and demonstrated ability to teach the identified subjectsExperience with universal design and differentiation to meet the diverse needs of studentsExcellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skillsExperience/training/knowledge of Social Emotional Learning.

    oral language development, phonological and phonemic awareness, play-based learning, reading, writing, etc.

    Ability to plan and model lessons in classroomsStrong classroom management skillsExperience and demonstrated knowledge in successfully planning Literacy instruction with the UDL frameworkAbility to work as part of a team to develop and implement Literacy learning plans for students with academic, social and emotional learning difficultiesWillingness to work in a collaborative model with LS staff and schoolsAbility to use technology as part of the role including Google platforms and Microsoft SharepointStrong background in district/appropriate learning resources including DigmoreDemonstrated experience in designing, facilitating or co-facilitating professional development opportunities and in services for district staff, support staff and parentsAbility to participate in meetings, in services and workshops outside of the regular school dayUnderstanding of adult learnersDemonstrated understanding of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and First Peoples Principles of LearningReading recovery training and/or post-graduate courses in literacy development or equivalentTravel is required therefore a reliable vehicle is neededInterested applicants are required to supplyThree (3) referencesVerification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate)Compensation$2000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4000 for teachers from other areas.$2,947 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE)Salary as per collective agreement.

    Current salary grid is $63,492 - $108,576Benefits as per collective agreement with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance.

    Benefits are employer paid based on FTE.
