Summary
- The Asphalt Plant Labourer works with a team and is responsible for the preparation and mixing of components to produce asphalt and related products. They ensure that the plants and structures are in working order, including maintaining the mechanical fitness of plant equipment such as converyors, burners, motors, gears, feeder bins, drum mixers, and other related plant equipment.
Key Responsibilities - Participates in the Company's safety program (Goal Zero) and complies with safety standards and policies.
- Perform silo prechecks at start of each shift.
- Perform basic maintenance, troubleshooting, and minor servicing on asphalt and soil cement plant(s) as required.
- Inspect and grease asphalt conveyors, and ensure equipment is functioning properly.
- Check and maintain plant oil levels daily.
- Maintain housekeeping and cleanliness of yard and plant site(s).
- Ensure tools used for daily tasks remain clean and organized within their designated locations.
- Unload hot oil and/or plant supplies from delivery trucks.
- Direct truck traffic through plant sites.
- Perform various manual laboring tasks including shoveling, sweeping, steam cleaning, painting, mechanical assistance, lifting, pushing and pulling of various objects.
- Perform setup and takedown of plants at different job sites as required.
- Provide assistance to loader and plant operators as necessary.
- Detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and report accordingly.
- Additional duties/tasks as required.
Skills/Abilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Able to perform strenuous work in varying weather conditions.
- Able to understand verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to weld and use a cutting torch is an asset.
- Knowledge of materials and methods involved in an asphalt production is an asset.
- Able to work at heights is required.
