JOB SUMMARY


As a member of the Stedman Hospice front line support team, this role will oversee the effective functioning of the Hospice kitchen.

The focus is on the delivery of good quality customized food for patients and families, where appropriate. This role is delivered with the support of volunteers.


The Kitchen Aide ensures that the Hospice Kitchen is stocked with appropriate items for preparing and serving meals, supports volunteers engaged in kitchen activities and supports families and patients with food resources in an individualized manner as resources permit.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & SUCCESS CRITERIA**Reporting to the Community and Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, the Kitchen Aide will be responsible for:
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre Brantford Mission, Vision, and Values and Policies and Procedures.
  • Demonstrates a collaborative approach to supporting patients and families while regularly interacting with front line staff and assisting volunteers to provide services in a supportive manner
  • Completes assessment of patient food preferences, communicate/document and accommodate where possible.
  • Determines grocery needs and arrange for delivery or pick up of food
  • Participates in selection of kitchen volunteers, provide comprehensive training to volunteers.
  • Provides input on performance to the Coordinator of Volunteers and the volunteer, as appropriate.
  • Provides regular support to volunteers around performance expectations and identifies any issues of concern to the Coordinator of Volunteers.
  • Maintains records regarding food safety as determined by Public Health and coaches/trains volunteers on hygiene expectations
  • Liaises across campus regarding items secured for hospice and explores opportunities for cost effective sourcing of supplies.
  • Ad hoc duties as assigned.
  • This position may be required to perform additional related job functions beyond this description._

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Completion of Food Safety Certification
  • Other safety and food related qualifications is an asset
  • Experience working in palliative and endoflife care setting
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and provide supportive service
  • Ability to make critical decisions while responding to competing demands
  • Able to work independently and initiate positive changes
  • Experience working effectively with a volunteer workforce
  • Ability to perform and comprehend oral and written communication
  • Demonstrates strong customer service and people skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision as well as part of a staff team
  • Understands patient's and families' right to privacy and always maintains confidentiality
