Job Summary:
The Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Operator will be responsible for the support of operations in water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems to meet Provincial legislated requirements and Regional program needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Performs maintenance, repairs, replacements, and installations of water and wastewater systems including water valves, sewer laterals, fire hydrants, maintenance holes, wastewater mains, watermains and water services, meters, watermain taps and related equipment.
- Responds to customer inquiries, complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner.
- Completes service turn on and turn offs for customers, permits and projects.
- Performs water distribution system investigations to identify and repair leaks.
- Performs basic pipe fitting.
- Conducts Water underground infrastructure analysis and locates.
- Carries out fire flow tests on hydrants.
- Performs sewer lateral and wastewater main backup clearing and cleaning.
- Performs daily water quality sample tests for secondary disinfection control, and strictly adheres to sampling requirements and safe handling of materials associated with the water industry.
- Assists with compiling information for work orders and reports to supervisors, management and the MECP.
- Operates trucks and heavy equipment when required, including Vactor trucks for flushing and digging.
- Supports other functions within the Public Works department as required.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
Essential
- Secondary school diploma and upon hire possess an OperatorinTraining certification/license.
- Possession of a valid class G Ontario driver's license.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and computer aptitude.
- Strong customer service skills
- Proven ability as an effective team member, with a commitment to cooperation, flexibility with coworkers, management, internal groups and the public.
- Demonstration of results orientation, initiative, continuous learning, dependability, adaptability, leadership, integrity and respect, problem solving and decision making.
Preferred
- Postsecondary school education and/or experience in a related civil, environmental or mechanical field.
- Upon interview; possess an Operator-InTraining (OIT) level license or higher.
- Experience and thorough knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems operation and components including pipes and outlying stations.
- Familiarity of operating GIS, CMMS systems and ability to read technical drawings.
- Possession of a valid class DZ Ontario driver's license.
- Progression to level 3 and 4 certification/licensing in the operator role is selfinitiated, and includes the requirement of 900 to 1,800 hours of postsecondary or continuing education in a
