Chief Atahm School is seeking a full time Vice-Principal for the school year. The successful candidate will need a background in distributive leadership that allows them to collaborate with a staff of experienced teachers to promote the overall goals and values of the school. The Vice-principal will be part of a school management team that plans and implements an educational program based on the school's principles.

We are seeking an individual with experience in supervising teachers and support staff, implementing instructional programs, including special needs, and curriculum and educational planning. The Vice-Principal will be expected to foster parental engagement and promote Secwepemc cultural programs. The Vice-Principal will work alongside the Principal to manage financial administration, building maintenance and student transportation.

Adams Lake Indian Band is home to Chief Atahm School, a Secwepemctsin immersion school that was founded in 1991. The school is located near Chase and 57 km east of Kamloops, B.C.. The Nursery/ Kindergarten and grades 1-4 are taught in Secwepemctsin. The grades 5 to 10 combine English and Secwepemc history, language and culture.

Chief Atahm School continues to be a parent-operated school where staff, parents and elders work together to offer the best program possible that adheres to our school's vision, philosophy and principles. The school has the capacity to develop Secwepemc language learning resources.

The successful candidate will be a collaborative educator, with outstanding interpersonal skills and a history of promoting parent and community involvement. The Vice-Principal will be expected to take an active teaching role when necessary.

Qualification and experience

Bachelor of Education degree

Master's degree in education is required

Knowledge of Special Education programming

Understanding of Secwepemc language, values, history and culture is an asset

A minimum of five years experience in an educational leadership role as a Vice Principal or Principal, or relevant position

A minimum of five years' experience on Indigenous pedagogy and history curriculum development

Must be able to obtain and maintain a clear Criminal Records Check

Must be in good standing with the BC Teacher Regulation Branch of the Ministry of Education

Salary is based on qualifications and years of experience.
