    Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to five temporary full-time Operations Maintenance Workers (from approx. April 15, 2024 to December 20, 2024) to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Parks Operations Department.

Reporting to the Manager, Parks Operations, in this unionized position you will perform semi-skilled manual work in parks operations and maintenance.

This position requires sufficient stamina, strength and agility to perform heavy manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.


Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a variety of large industrial gas and/or electrical tools and heavy equipment such as tractors with attachments, selfpropelled grass mowers and concrete mixers
  • Operate a dump, flat, panel or service truck of between 5,100 and 24,000 pounds GVW
  • Maintain and repair parks within the Township which includes turf management, irrigation systems, horticulture, arboriculture, conservation areas, trails, hard surfaces, playgrounds, spray parks and park structures
  • Assist in construction and maintenance of wooden and concrete structures
  • Assist with supervision of a small crew performing unskilled and semiskilled manual work as required
  • Perform related work as required

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent supplemented by training courses and considerable related experience in construction and/or maintenance, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Considerable knowledge of safe work practices and the methods, tools and equipment used in parks operations
  • Ability to exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative and operate vehicles safely and efficiently
  • Ability to effectively communicate with internal/external contacts
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work performed
  • BC Class 3 (full privilege) Driver's license with Airbrake Endorsement or Class 5 (full privilege) Driver's License with Heavy Trailer Endorsement (Code 20) are considered assets

Required Certifications/Licenses

  • BC Landscape Pesticide Applicator Certificate
