Your Opportunity:

Working along with other Health Care Professionals, you will provide Laboratory support to the community of Stony Plain.

The primary responsibilities include phlebotomy for adults, children and infants using both macro and micro techniques, accessioning patient specimens, troubleshooting problem specimens, performing ECGs and reception duties.

As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner.

You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Equivalent is defined as completion of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) and Combined Laboratory and Xray Technologist (CLXT) program in Canada; completion of a Medical Lab Technician/Technologist program outside of Canada; and MLT and CLXT students who have completed their phlebotomy training/rotation.

Applicants with a high school diploma may be considered.

If hired, you will be required to complete on-the-job phlebotomy training provided by APL at no cost, and formal training courses offered by SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) or NAIT (Northern Alberta Institute of Technology).

The costs associated with these formal training courses will be your responsibility.

You will be required to complete these training requirements within your probationary period, as per the Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) collective agreement.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduation from a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program which includes specimen handling and phlebotomy. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities. Adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions.

Ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the telephone or in writing in an accurate and clear concise manner.

Must represent Laboratory Services in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.


Preferred Qualifications:

Competency with the Epic (Beaker) Information System. Recent experience with Phlebotomy, Data Entry, urinalysis and ECG's. Familiarity with Patient and Family Centred Care and NOD.
