    RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC

    The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University.     Position Summary

    Laboratory of Dr. Joanna Przybyl, an early-career Principal Investigator of the Cancer Research Program, is seeking a Data Analyst to participate in translational cancer research. Research program of Dr. Przybyl aims to resolve diagnostic and therapeutic challenges in the treatment of patients with soft tissue tumors. More specifically, laboratory of Dr. Przybyl investigates metabolic reprogramming in soft tissue sarcomas and develops novel clinically applicable liquid biopsy (circulating tumor DNA) assays for patients with soft tissue tumors. The group of Dr. Przybyl also applies multi-omic (genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and methylome) high-throughput methods to discover new diagnostic markers and therapeutic targets in soft tissue sarcomas.

    The incumbent will build bioinformatic pipelines, analyze the data and interpret the results using statistical techniques. They will be developing and implementing data analyses, and acquiring data from primary or secondary data sources and maintaining databases.

    General Duties

    Responsibilities

    The incumbent will have the following responsibilities analyzing a variety of high-throughput data (next generation sequencing data, mass spectrometry data, microarray data):

  • Participates in designing studies and recommending analytical strategies,
  • Performs literature review to learn about gold standard data analysis methods,
  • Cleans datasets, and codes and manages data,
  • Writes scripts, runs analyses, and visualizes data,
  • Solves problems regarding data analysis,
  • Troubleshoots and adapts published methodologies,
  • Prepares data for a variety of projects, and creates figures for papers, posters, and more,
  • Supervises and trains several trainees in their quantitative research projects,
  • Works on research protocols, and grants to be submitted to federal / provincial / others funders and ethics committees,
  • Presents their work at internal and potentially local, national, and international meetings,
  • Accomplishes any other related tasks as required by the immediate supervisor.

  • Must have demonstrable experience in programming in R, Python, Java, C, C++ and Unix/bash,
  • Proficiency in study design/development, and data models,
  • Experience analyzing high-throughput genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic data (e.g., microarray data, next generation sequencing data),
  • Experience analyzing mass spectrometry data,
  • Adept at queries, writing reports, and making presentations ,
  • Attention to detail and accuracy,
  • Good analytical and logic skills,
  • Autonomy (with minimum supervision after appropriate training), initiative, creativity, curiosity,
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
