Job Summary:


The Clerk, Accounting provides support to the accounting group in the areas of month end closing, account reconciliations, supporting schedules and statutory reporting.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Creates and records month end journal entries and schedules to ensure a timely and accurate closing process for multiple corporate entities.
  • Ensures accuracy of business unit accounting for revenue, voyage costs, operating costs, bulker pool accounting, and other areas as required.
  • Calculates and records month end fuel inventory, including any rebillable revenue accruals.
  • Records transactions and completes reconciliations for all bank accounts.
  • Performs revaluation of month end accounts denominated in foreign currencies as required (accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank accounts, etc).
  • Prepares month end intercompany, corporate, and vessel management billings.
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations and working papers as assigned.
  • Responds to requests for information from auditors (financial and regulatory) as requested.
  • Analyses and investigates financial information and variances as requested.
  • Completes monthly regulatory filings and associated remittances for commodity taxes, withholding taxes and carbon taxes.
  • Assists in Statistic Canada reporting for various corporate entities.

Skills, Abilities and Experience:


  • Postsecondary education in Accounting or Business.
  • 2 years' experience in a similar position.
  • Experience working in an organization with multiple accounting entities.
  • Experience working for a publicly traded company would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in using advanced features of Microsoft Excel and extracting data from an ERP system.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Excellent organization, planning and prioritization skills.
  • Able to work independently with mínimal supervision.
  • Confidentiality, discretion and diplomacy on all business matters.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Selfmotivated, able to work in a team environment and balance the needs of a number of individuals and the team.
  • Capable of identifying and resolving problems in a timely manner.
  • Businessminded with strong accounting acumen and analytical skills.
