About the Opportunity

POITION SUMMARY


Reporting to the Social Enterprise Manager, the Crew Lead supervises and participates in the work of a crew performing general maintenance, landscaping, facility and infrastructure maintenance and repair.

The Crew Lead guides and supports a small crew by prioritizing projects, assigning work tasks, using equipment, maintaining records, monitoring work quality and work schedules, ensuring crew safety, training employees, and providing performance feedback.

The Crew Lead leads and participates in performing various building maintenance tasks, landscaping and horticultural functions, and equipment operation. Crew Lead is responsible for procurement of materials, work orders, and record-keeping for each project. Work is supervised by the Social Enterprise Manager for adherence to instructions and established standards.


Crew Lead is also tasked with duties within the Velotecha Bike Lab, to support operations during peak periods. This will include servicing bicycles, managing customer interactions and supporting the Velotecha crew, as needed, in the performance of their tasks.


PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
of the Crew Lead include but are not limited to:

  • Assign daily tasks to work crews, in coordination with supervisor's goals;
  • Ensure materials are available and onsite as required;
  • Manage multiple concurrent job sites when required;
  • Provide onsite training support to new members of the team;
  • Ensure crews follow applicable safety regulations at all times;
  • Ensure initial quality inspections and ensure all work is completed correctly to the level of quality specified in the scope and that any work that does not meet quality standards is rectified;
  • Provide transportation to the job site for crewmembers as directed;
  • Yard maintenance including but not limited to cutting grass, picking up garbage, spreading soil, raking;
  • General maintenance including but not limited to patching and painting, furniture moving, cleaning;
  • Tuning, fixing and refurbishing bicycles;
  • Follow Workplace Health and Safety procedures and ensure the worksite is orderly and maintained;
  • Complete and submit all written documentation and financial reporting requirements within acceptable timeframes. This includes but is not limited to completing daily time logs (job site, amount of time spent, record of tasks completed and time spent on each);
  • Limit use of work and personal devices during hours of work, appropriately finding time to respond to work related texts and calls when safe to do so;
  • Build professional relationships that are supportive, nonjudgmental, and value differences in cultural and ethnic backgrounds and lifestyles;
  • Other duties as related to the position and as reasonably assigned by the supervisor, or as circumstances dictate, all within the context of The Link's Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles as well as a strong and progressive customer service and community service orientation.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Completion of grade 12 or GED.
  • A valid Province of Manitoba Journeyman's Certificate (or working towards), in any of the building trades (desired).
  • Experience supervising staff.
  • Experience patching and painting.
  • Thorough knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools and equipment utilized in the area of assigned work including general maintenance, landscaping and facility maintenance.
  • Advanced skill in the operation of equipment, tools and instruments used for assigned work areas.
  • Ability to assign and supervise the work of others, provide instruction, lead a small crew and inspire confidence.
  • Considerable knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned area of work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers and the public.
  • Working knowledge of leadership skills including communication, motivation and performance feedback.
  • Working knowledge of bicycle repair and maintenance.
  • Ability to think logically under difficult situations or under pressure.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize job duties and responsibilities
