Primary Role of This Position
In this role, the Class G Driver will be responsible for delivering freight and other documents in an accurate, efficient, timely, and safe manner according to policies, procedures, and Ministry of Transportation of Ontario (MTO) regulations, while promoting a positive and professional image to others at all times.
The Driver will ensure operations are compliant with applicable GMP standards as defined by GUI-0001 "Good Manufacturing Practices" and GUI-0069 "Guidelines for Temperature Control of Drug Products during Storage and Transportation".
Major Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform a pre-trip and post-trip inspection as required by the MTO to ensure vehicle is safe to drive
- Drive safely and carefully, completing deliveries in a timely and efficient manner; provide appropriate notification in cases of delay
- Verify that the orders being shipped or picked up match the documentation that you are signing (quantity, customer name, address, etc.) as required
- Ensure that all shipments are properly loaded and secured
- Obtain necessary customer acceptance signatures for all deliveries
- Respond to customer inquiries in a way that promotes and maintains positive customer and supplier relations
- Communicate delays and problems with the delivery schedule
- Report all accidents and incidents immediately to your supervisor
- Ensure documents are available for MTO inspection
- Ensure appropriate driving licenses and medical examinations are up-to-date and renewed as required
- Ensure any driving violation is brought to the Supervisor's attention immediately
- Provide recommendations to Supervisor regarding procedures and route schedule improvement
- Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by following established safe work procedures and participating in regular safety training and reporting
- Additional tasks as required
Education and Experience
- Completion of high school or equivalent experience
- Minimum 2 years driving experience in all traffic conditions
Qualifications
- Depending upon the vehicle to be driven, must possess a valid driver's licence from the province of operation, appropriate driving classification, and verification of a good driving record;
copy of current driver's abstract from MTO dated within the last 30 days is required: - Driver 1: G Class
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent knowledge of the highways and cities of operation
- Ability to work with limited or no direct supervision
- Ability to maintain demeanor under stressful situations and a variety of driving conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular and repetitive basis
