    Unit Summary

    The 6 West unit specializes in the acute post surgical care for orthopedics and spine patients. Our surgical teams include surgeons specializing in orthopedic, orthopedic spine and neurosurgical spine interventions. We are looking for staff who enjoy working in a fast paced, highly skilled environment. We have a multi-disciplinary team approach towards our patient care. The unit is located at the General site. Position Summary

    The role of the OTA/PTA on each ward is to assist the PT/OT on each unit in the provision of patient care within the Neuroscience and Trauma Program, either in a directly collaborative or delegated capacity. In addition, some equipment maintenance and procurement, organizational duties and documentation are required. The PTA/OTA is required to serve as a preceptor for PTA/OTA students. Functions according to the job description for PTA/OTA within the Program.

    Schedule Work Hours

    Monday to Fridays; days

    This role is temporary until February 2025.

    Qualifications
  • Graduate of a recognized accredited OTA/PTA program and completion of a formal post-secondary, OTA/PTA Certificate or Diploma from a recognized college as approved by HHS
    2. Recent experience (within past 2 years) working with acute post surgical, trauma and spinal cord patients
    3.Demonstrates attributes of respect and caring
    4. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients and families
    5. Demonstrated ability to work independently, accept assignments, set and adjust priorities and organize self and work areas
    6. Demonstrated ability to do repetitive reaching, bending, pushing, lifting and demonstrate good body mechanics
    7. Demonstrated physical ability to manage equipment i.e. mechanical lifts
    8. Ability to adapt equipment under the direction of both physiotherapy and occupational therapists
    9. Knowledge of all types of wheelchairs preferred.
