Southpointe is seeking an energetic, outgoing and collaborative teacher assistant who shares a commitment to inquiry and concept-based teaching and learning.


Reporting to the Junior School Principal or their designate, the Teacher Assistant (Supervision and Instructional) position will commence upon appointment, concluding June 21, 2024.



Position Overview:


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supervises outside play areas during recess and lunch play breaks;
  • Supervises student(s) off the school campus on field trips, as required;
  • Assists teachers in the planning, development, modification, preparation, and implementation of curriculum, classroom materials and schedules to meet the needs of student(s);
  • Assists the teacher in the implementation of individualized and/or group behaviour programs in specialized or integrated settings;
  • Reinforces concepts introduced by the teacher(s) and implements instructional programs designed by the teacher;
  • Maintains regular communications with the supervising teacher(s) and other team members and other relevant professionals;
  • Observes student behaviour and progress, maintaining detailed written records as required;
  • May carry out emergency procedures;
  • Remains current with changing technology, practices, and equipment;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Successful completion of a secondary school graduation program or equivalent;
  • Valid Early Childhood Educator Basic Certificate;
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively while following the direction and guidance of the classroom/resource teacher;
  • Ability to operate a variety of office and school equipment, including equipment specific to the needs of the student(s);
  • Strong Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills;
  • Ability to use judgement when providing information;
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position;
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.

Hours of Work:


  • 9:40am to 2:10pm on days in which students are in school.

Salary and Benefits:


  • As per Collective Agreement $30.75 per hour;
