    About the role

    Operations Manager - Durham York WTE plant in Courtice, ON, Canada

    Reporting to the Facility / Plant Manager, the Operations Manager (OM) will oversee Plant operational responsibilities and requirements, at this Energy from Waste (EfW) plant. The OM will coordinate and supervise the day-to-day activities of the Operations Department; oversee and coordinate the maintenance activities by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

  • DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The Operations Manager at the Reworld Energy Durham York Facility must foster an environment of Safety, Environmental Stewardship, and a commitment to our client. In this role the OM must complete all duties as required in the TSSA Operating Engineers Regulation, Ontario Regulation 219/01.

    As a key leadership role this person must be able to support the operation team through mentor and coaching for excellence in the operation of an Waste to Energy Facility.

    The other key responsibilities includes but are not limited to:

  • Review and prioritize the daily work activities for the department. Delegate functional activities of the Shift Supervisors, and responsibilities to ensure quality and timeliness of independent decisions required to provide continuous service to the customer and safety of workers.
  • Delineate the safety policies and procedures for the Operations Department.
  • Track production and maintenance activities, plan scheduled outage work and oversee the related scheduling and timely completion of operating duties.
  • Direct the development of operating procedures and instructions and assist in the evaluation and development of recommendations for plant improvements.
  • Maintain all documents and records appertaining to the department.
  • Confer with representatives of other departments in solving interrelated administrative, organizational, and technical problems.
  • Comply with all Reworld Policies and Procedures.
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage subordinate shift supervisors who supervise a group of employees in the Operations Department.
  • This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Ability to take appropriate safe action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or injury to personnel during emergencies or unusual situations.
  • Ability to motivate employees, maintain high morale and get along with people. Ability to use office computer system MSWord, Excel, and PowerPoint. Prior experience with Maintenance Management Software is an asset
  • REASONING ABILITY:

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

    REQUIREMENTS (Education, Skills, Certificate, Licenses, Experience):

  • Requires a broad background in plant operations including at least five (5) years in hands-on and/or supervision of machinery.
  • Power plant experience is preferred but not required.
  • The Ideal candidate must possess a 1st Class Inter Provincial Power Engineers Certification well as; general supervisory background in an electrical generating facility is most preferred.
  • General knowledge and/or experience in industrial safety are required or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in a Solid Fuel facility is highly desirable.
  • Experience with DCS and CEMs operation is a requirement of this role.
  • Prior commissioning experience is an asset.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Prior experience with Maintenance Management Software is an asset
  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee periodically enters and inspects various plant areas with rotating machinery; is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; confined spaces, fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; Risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • Outside weather conditions; extreme heat may be a factor The noise level in the work environment usually requires hearing protection.
