The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for a Front Desk Office Assistant.

This position is responsible for working with the ISC team to create a warm and welcoming environment, maintain files, forms, and records as well as submitting weekly payroll.

The Front Desk Office Assistant will also support the Elders-in-Residence program and schedules Elders appointments as requested.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:
THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED FOR INDIGENOUS CANDIDATES. APPLICANTS MUST SELF-DECLARE ON THEIR COVER LETTER/RESUME AS INDIGENOUS (FIRST NATION, METIS AND/OR INUIT).

  • Completion of a formal training program in a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of directly related experience is required.
  • A positive experience with Indigenous communities is required.
  • Competencies with Indigenous knowledge, cultural values, and worldviews are required.
  • Experience working with Elders is required.
  • Ability to speak an Indigenous language is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Indigenous organizations is preferred.
  • Experience working with VIP, FAST, Epic, and Concur is preferred.
  • Experience with the operation of postsecondary institutions is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of University regulations and policies with an understanding of the relationship between various units and decisionmaking bodies are preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, Elders, alumni, Indigenous communities, community organizations, and the public.
  • High degree of analytical thinking preferred.
  • Must possess a demonstrated ability to work independently and accurately under pressure.
  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills are preferred.
  • Must have exceptional decisionmaking and interpersonal skills including diplomacy and tact.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to deal with high demand and/or stressful contacts.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and be willing to take the initiative to solve problems and learn new tasks.
  • Demonstrated public speaking skills are preferred.
  • Welldeveloped knowledge of general office practices is essential.
  • Must be pleasant and efficient in communication with students and staff.
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and using intermediate features associated with a Windows computer environment including database/spreadsheet management, calendar software, and mail software.
  • Independence, diplomacy, selfmotivation, confidentiality and ability to work with many types of individual in sensitive environments is required.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
