Here's how a Building Systems (MEP) Preconstruction Coordinator for our Toronto District office contributes to our team:


Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate and manage MEP design build/design assist subtrades, and MEP consultants to develop competitive design build projects
  • Liaise with energy modelling consultants and building operators to evaluate operational and sustainability impacts of various MEP design solutions
  • Review designs and specifications for value, coordination, functionality, AHJ compliance, constructability, and maintainability, and produce recommendations
  • Review and analyze drawings, reports, specifications, performance specifications, and standards and identify risks and opportunities
  • Coordinate with other estimators to ensure complete and properly delineated scopes where MEP, architectural or civil scopes may overlap or interface
  • Develop MEP scopes and assemble conceptual estimates on projects in early development stages or with incomplete design
  • Solicit, analyze, and make recommendations on MEP trade pricing
  • Develop and maintain MEP trade and vendor relationships
  • Develop scoping documents for MEP trades and consultants, including RFPs, tender packages, and subcontracts
  • Negotiate scope and price with MEP subtrades
  • Review and negotiate change notices/orders related to building systems and assess their effect on the project budget, scope, and schedule
  • Liaise with utility providers
  • Design and handle the procurement of temporary utility services (e.g., power, water, gas, storm, and sewer connections) and construction power and heat systems for their inclusion in the construction plan
  • Advise on schedule development as it relates to MEP systems design, procurement, permitting, installation, and commissioning and logical links with architectural portions of the schedule
  • Review and understanding prime contract and building systems subcontract details
  • Identify and communicate risks and opportunities to the project team and ensure contract management of the trade contractors
  • Assembly and analysis of historical design and cost data
  • Track market trends and new technologies and distill and distribute pertinent information to other PCLers
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues

Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary diploma or degree in related discipline (e.g., mechanical, electrical, controls) or trade experience or equivalent
  • 2 years of experience in mechanical/electrical estimating, MEP project management or consulting engineering
  • Experience in design build projects, PPP Projects, and Healthcare projects are an asset
  • Exposure to related onsite construction activities are an asset
  • Indepth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, principles, and practices
  • Strong understanding of key building systems, including either:
  • Electrical distribution, lighting, fire alarm
  • Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), building automation systems (BAS)
  • Audiovisual, security, information, communication, automation, and technology (AV / SEC / ICAT / IMIT)
  • Ability to understand and read mechanical, electrical, architectural, civil, and structural drawings and specifications
  • Indepth knowledge of construction industry including building materials, construction specifications, methods and procedures, construction law and building codes, and safety and quality management practices
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, consultants, internal parties and trade partners
  • Ability to leads effective internal and/or external meetings. Presentation skills are an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fastpaced environment, potentially reporting to different people
  • Planning, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize and delegate tasks
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word) and construction related software including scheduling software (P6), PowerBI, Revit, Assemble and estimating/takeoff software are preferred
