This is a remote-based volunteer position that reports to the Marketing and Communications Director. No financial compensation is offered.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, passionate Public Relations Volunteer to join our Marketing and Communications team.
A Public Relations & Events Coordinator Volunteer will play a key role in building awareness of Better Environmentally Sound Transportation (BEST) programs, campaigns, and thought leadership.
Reports directly to the Director of Communications and Marketing, and work with colleagues across the organization, as well as supporters and volunteers; to deliver accurate and effective communications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, develop and implement Public Relations Strategies
- Prepare and supervise production of publicity materials
- Devise and coordinate media and publicity opportunities for photography or video.
- Write and submit press releases, building and maintaining relationships with media to foster placement of stories and other content.
- Design tactics to enhance organization's presence with newspaper, radio, television, online and other media outlets in the local, regional and national arenas.
- Implement and oversee preparation of and editing all promotional materials to ensure that they fit within the marketing and public relations plan, conform with organizational style guidelines, and meet established timelines.
Required Education/Training
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public relations or Journalism
- Preferably some experience and working knowledge of PR and marketing. If not, a strong interest in PR, marketing and media
- Previous experience working in government, nonprofit or a public sector environment is desirable.
Qualifications
- Excellent interpersonal skills and creative communicator.
- Knowledgeable in basic graphic design technique and use of Adobe InDesign software to develop and produce communications in a variety of mediums
- Excellent speaking, grammar, creative writing, and editing skills.
- Interest in nonprofit sector
- Strong timemanagement and organizational skills
- Knowledge and experience using social media websites
- Capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects.
Term/Commitment
This position requires a minimum 3-month commitment for an average of 2-4 hours per week, which will be completed virtually.

BEST will provide milestone acknowledgements and reference letters for all volunteers who successfully complete their volunteer placement.
