BioCanRx provides researchers with access to funding, expertise, training and biomanufacturing facilities. We train and develop the talent needed for a thriving Canadian health biotechnology sector. BioCanRx receives funding from the federal government's Strategic Science Fund.


The Opportunity


BioCanRx is seeking a Director of Communications and Marketing to oversee the strategy, implementation and management of our marketing, public relations and communications channels.

Reporting directly to the CEO and President, you will build awareness for BioCanRx and our programs, in order to drive impact and support from our stakeholders, such as scientists, clinicians, patient and patient groups, industry and government.


Responsibilities

  • Spearheading the planning, creation, writing, editing and production of all marketing and communication, including social media, print and digital content, website, public relations, newsletters, collateral, advertising and other printed materials, including annual reports.
  • Updating and maintaining the BioCanRx website, online publications, and social media channels.
  • Communicating and collaborating with a range of people and organizations to stay current of programs and impact and to infuse an awareness of marketing and messaging in all our work.
  • Use datadriven insights to measure, track, and analyze marketing results, guiding informed decisionmaking.
  • Ensuring that brand identity, messaging, and marketing and communications strategy are infused in all organizational efforts.
  • Overseeing the daily activities of the Communications team including budgeting, planning and staff development.
  • Hiring and managing a small staff of 1 communications associate and external contractors; setting performance goals and conducting annual performance reviews.
  • Promoting a culture of entrepreneurship, high performance and continuous improvement, and developing staff using a supportive and collaborative approach.
  • Negotiating and managing corporate sponsorships and benefits and with the team, manage the production and execution of the Annual Summit for Cancer Immunotherapy (timelines, content, budget, logistics, sponsors).

Requirements:


  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in managing marketing and communications to advance an organization's mission and goals.
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in the design and execution of marketing and communications activities.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling skills.
  • High competence in Google analytics and other performance measurements.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and an ability to work proactively and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong budgeting and costmanagement skills and an ability to maximize impact with a limited budget.
  • Strong listening skills, combined with effective, articulate, and persuasive public speaking.
  • Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of marketing and communications specialists.
  • Excellent judgment and creative problemsolving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution.
  • Experience working with media outlets and handling crisis communications.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and responsibly, successfully juggling multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Genuine interest in and dedication to furthering the BioCanRx scientific mission.
  • Strong commitment to fostering Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within all aspects of organizational activities.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English & French is considered an asset.
