    Pipelayers work from blueprints to determine the types and placement location of piping, values, and fixtures to be installed. They assemble, install, and maintain pipes to carry liquids.

    Key Responsibilities



    • Installation of waterlines, sewer, storm and catch basins to specific specifications

    • Ability to direct hoe operator in excavating to correct elevations

    • Change and repair pipe systems and do all types of pipe

    • Measure, cut, bend, and thread pipes, joining sections together as necessary using elbows, "T" joints, or other couplings

    • Check for leaks by forcing water or air through under pressure

    • Use wrenches, reamers, drills, hammers, chisels, saws, gas torches, pipe cutters, benders, and threaders on site

    • Aids in directing activities within the trench to ensure pipe is laid to the designed vertical and horizontal tolerances

    • Monitors backfill of pipe bedding to ensure proper haunch support

    • Ensure all installed materials are properly bedded

    • Follow all legislative, and company safety policies

    • Takes direction from the foreman

    • Other duties as required

    Qualifications


    Education, Training and Certifications

    • Must have a valid Class 5 (or better) driver's license with clean drivers abstract
    • Own transportation
    • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent

    Work Experience

    Minimum of 2 years experience with a water and sewer crew

    Technical Skills

    Functional understanding of underground utilities crew tools and machines
