    Description
    The Speech and Language Pathologist plays a key role in the Student Services team, ensuring diverse learners have access to effective learning opportunities. This involves providing support, materials, and services while enhancing staff capacity. Collaborating with various MESC central office branches, including Learning Services, the Speech and Language Pathologist helps to actualize MESC's vision and mission within school communities. Regular updates to the Inclusive Services Coordinator are also part of the responsibilities.
    The Speech and Language Pathologist will be tasked with:
    • Enhancing staff capacity to meet children's developmental needs.
    • Maintaining up-to-date knowledge on best practices in speech and language pathology and inclusive practices.
    • Offering universal, targeted, and personalized support in communication within the Student Services team.
    • Promoting a Child and Family Centered approach to service delivery.
    • Involving parents as active partners in planning and decision-making processes.
    • Adapting service delivery to accommodate diverse and evolving needs of children and families.
    • Providing consultative support for academic and social inclusion.
    • Implementing a strength-based service model.
    • Offering specialized services like screening, assessing communication delays, and advising on programming.
    • Assisting families and school staff in utilizing communication devices for students.
    • Conducting staff training for student language development.
    • Providing guidance to school-based Speech and Language Pathologist assistants.
    • Fostering engagement in literacy and numeracy to enhance learning opportunities.
    • Delivering services across multiple schools within MESC, from headstart to graduation preparation.
    • Engaging in various Inclusive Education initiatives.
    • Completing assigned tasks from direct supervisor or Director of Student Services.
    Assessment, Caseload, and Record Management:
    • Triage referrals and manage caseload collaboratively.
    • Maintain inventory of materials and assistive devices.
    • Contribute to the design of school Speech and Language Assistant spaces.
    • Manage confidential records and provide timely reports.
    • Participate in debriefing meetings and collaborative assessments.
    • Utilize district protocols for report administration and maintenance.
    • Assist in paperwork for funding requests and resources.
    • Regular communication with supervisor.
    • Perform other duties as delegated by the supervisor.
    Qualifications:
    • Master's Degree in Speech and Language Pathology.
    • Registered with the Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologist.
    • Prior experience in a school setting preferred.
    Working Conditions:
    • Interaction with various stakeholders under different circumstances.
    • Requires intermittent physical activity and manual dexterity for computer use.
    • Flexible work hours may be necessary.
    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Strong organizational and management abilities.
    • Clean criminal background check with vulnerable sector clearance.
    • Familiarity with Cree culture and language.
    • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication.
    • Patience, energy, and problem-solving skills.
    • Deep understanding of child development and confidentiality.
