What you'll do

  • Lead the implementation and ongoing administration of Seabird Island's Occupational Health And Safety Program (OH&S).
  • Actively work on Health and Safety policy for implementation, review interpretations
  • Promote health and safety awareness among all employees with a focus on injury prevention.
  • Support workplace Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees as required.
  • Investigate and report on workplace injuries and incidents, including recommendation to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Develop safe work procedures, safety reports, and maintain appropriate records.
  • Compile safety statistics for hazard identification and monitoring.
  • Inspect work sites, make recommendations to improve safety and health standards, and undertake appropriate action where unsafe conditions have been identified or recommended by JHSC Committee, Leadership
  • Develop courses, prepare materials, coordinate, and provide safety training and orientation to employees using a variety of media.
  • Case Manager administrator for occupational and nonoccupational injury and illness:
  • Conduct effective hazard analysis unique to each department and job specifications. Implement safety procedures based on departmental needs and to reassess and adapt as needed
  • Follow up with contractor services site work on SIB Land and land use permit checks to ensure contractors and land use are aligned to work permitted and safe practices are being followed
  • Oversee implementation of Physical demand analysis (PDA) per position
  • Monitor, update and communicate the SIB Health and Safety policies
  • Coordinate Safety and Wellness events such as emergency drills, toolbox meetings
  • Conduct site Inspections All facilities for condition, air quality and sound levels or other Hazards.
  • Provide regular and accurate statistical reports on all medical aid, WCB incidents and injuries, lost time injuries, healthrelated absenteeism, and disability information
  • Maintain records of all Health and Safety related training on individual employee files
  • Coordination of WHMIS, hazardous materials and hazardous waste.
  • Interpret the Workers' Compensation Act and Regulation and make recommendations to achieve and maintain compliance.
  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor, Director, or the Executive Director
