Job Summary


The Shop Supervisor's primary function is to oversee the work of Welders/Fitters and Mechanical & Electrical Assembly, to ensure adequate and competent resources are available to meet the Production Schedule and deliver customer products on-spec, on-time and on-budget according to technical drawings, schematics, government regulations and other documented specifications in a safe and efficient manner.


Responsibilities:


  • Supervise, co-ordinate and schedule the activities of the plant on the afternoon shift
  • Participate in production meetings and establish methods to meet work schedules and co-ordinate activities with other departments to ensure timelines, budgets and specifications are met.
  • Enable a continuous improvement process to minimize, record and respond to NCR/CAR reports.
  • Conduct regular ad-hoc inspection of work as performed to improve quality and provide workers with feedback.
  • Work with the Production Manager to ensure adequate and competent resources are available to meet the Production Schedule.
  • Conduct regular performance appraisals following established procedures and train or arrange training of workers.
  • Ensure standards for safe working conditions are observed in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Conduct and record regular safety talks. Supervisors are responsible for the safety of their workers and at no time risk safety for delivery.
  • Comply with related government regulations and relevant codes and practices.
  • Assist with fabrication work as required. Inspect, test, examine and investigate parts, subassemblies, and finished products to insure quality and detect irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Perform regular checks and inspections of related equipment including cranes, forklifts, presses, saws, welding machines, etc.

Job Specific Qualifications & Requirements

  • Qualified Journeyman (Fitter, Iron Welder, Industrial Millwright, trade certification) preferably with (Red Seal).
  • Minimum 5 years' supervisor experience in a heavy industrial equipment environment and/or manufacturing.
  • Ability to travel within North America with a valid passport and driver's licence.
  • Canadian Weld Bureau Weld Supervisor Certified would be considered an asset.
