Job purpose


Under the supervision of the Area Director, the purpose of this position is to further raise the awareness of Northreach Society within the local community and surrounding rural areas.

This will involve communicating our range of services and programs to members and organizations from these communities.

It is the responsibility of this position not only to maintain present partnerships and links with community agencies but to actively seek and develop new ones.


Duties and responsibilities


The main responsibility of this position is to further develop links and partnerships with community agencies and organizations both in the local area and surrounding rural communities.

This position is required to establish relationships with communities experiencing high rates of STBBI's in order to help facilitate awareness, prevention, routine testing and treatment.

Raising the profile of Northreach Society is a priority whether it be through individual or group relationships or providing up to date accurate information.


Job Duties Include:


  • Conduct and participate in public awareness activities and special events.
  • Host educational awareness sessions throughout the community to reach priority populations.
  • Provide one on one support to those living with HIV and/or HCV in regards to: Financial assistance referrals; Medication knowledge and adherence; Housing referrals and crisis support; Mental health and addictions referrals and followup support; Sexual health concerns and disclosure strategies.
  • Educate on STBBI's, promote routine testing, assist clients in accessing testing and treatment of STBBI's.
  • Deliver harm reduction and health promotion education to the general public.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Maintain the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members and partner community agencies.
  • Assist with fund raising activities and events.
  • Host support groups for priority populations.
  • Be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the community.

Qualifications

Qualifications and competencies include:

  • Completion of postsecondary school or currently enrolled in social work, social services, or other relevant field.
  • Experience in teaching/facilitation of small and large groups.
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Syphilis, and other STBBI.

Working conditions
The position is Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a half hour for lunch. There may be the occasional off hours task that is scheduled in advance. Standing, sitting, walking, and driving are all expectations of the role.

Employee must have access to a reliable, working vehicle as employee is expected to drive to areas for needle debris walks and calls, as well as to community engagements/events/trainings/partners.
