SD Avionics is a division of Satcom Direct located in Kanata, the high-tech hub of Ottawa, Ontario. Our second largest site globally, this location manufactures avionics hardware, cabin routers, and the SD Plane Simple Antenna System.

JOB SUMMARY:

This role entails collaborating with the SDA Engineering and Technical Support teams to promptly identify and address software issues, troubleshoot IP and telephony networks, and adopt a proactive problem-solving approach.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


In order to excel in this role, it is essential for the individual to proficiently carry out each core responsibility and exhibit the following competencies consistently to fulfill the duties of the position.

All team members are required to comply with and possess an understanding of Satcom Direct (SD) operational norms, established safety/security protocols, and company work guidelines.


Main Responsibilities:


  • Use your software development skills to develop tools, test frameworks, and automation for the system under test
  • Analyze product requirements and define technical test cases
  • Collaborate with members from QA, SW, HW, Systems, Support, and Product Management
  • Continuous communication with our tightknit development teams
  • Ability to work productively alone and in a team.
  • Ability to be proactive and work effectively with little direct supervision.
  • Support daytoday Test efforts in the Lab and in the field.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Required education, knowledge, or skills:


  • Exceptional customer service, organizational, and time management abilities, with a talent for multitasking.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, enabling successful interactions with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven capacity to collaborate within a team or autonomously.
  • Confident decisionmaking and problemsolving skills, particularly in timesensitive situations

Desired education, knowledge, or skills:


  • Comprehensive understanding of L-Band/Ku/Ka/Iridium network principles and services.
  • Proficiency in fault isolation and ability to interpret debug/log files from Linux systems.
  • Familiarity with Protocols such as ISDN, CEPT-E1, FXO/FXS.
  • Understanding of Arinc protocols and specifications.
  • Skilled in using general office software, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, with adaptability to various other software.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team dynamic.
  • Willingness and ability to travel.
  • Proficiency with Linux
  • Experience in the Business Aviation industry, including familiarity with aircraft OEM airframes and knowledge of current communication equipment used in aircraft (Satcom, Antennas, Modems, Routers, Switches)
  • Ability to code in Python, C/C++, and scripting
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (JIRA, Confluence) and Git source control

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs).

Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening and reading, able to lift light objects (<25lbs), and use standard office equipment such as computer, printer, phone and cell phone.

In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or stoop in order to open/close cabinets, reach for files or other standard office type objects.

The office environment is generally quiet and, in a temperature, controlled set
