Description

Company Description:

Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square.

After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn't work together.

To solve this problem, we expanded into software and built integrated solutions to help sellers sell in-store and online, manage inventory and staff schedules, book appointments and engage loyal buyers.

Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes - large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as sellers who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time.

As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We're building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.

We are looking for a Chief Risk Officer to join our team, supporting the Canadian Square business unit as it prepares for compliance with enterprise risk and incident response requirements associated with Canada's Retail Payment Activities Act.

This is a key role overseeing the Canadian enterprise risk function. You will be based in Canada but will have the option to work from home (from anywhere in Canada). You will report directly to the Head of Compliance for Square Canada.

You will:

  • Cultivate and embed a strong enterprise risk management culture across the business and assist first line of defence in the identification, assessment and mitigation of risks related to Square's payment services.
  • Manage and continually develop the enterprise risk management framework, related policies and processes ensuring they meet regulatory expectations and are tailored to the business enhancing operational efficiencies.
  • Develop and embed the key risk Indicator framework.
  • Perform analysis of enterprise risk data to identify insights, trends and emerging risks.
  • Ensure risks and business activities undertaken are monitored and assessed on a regular basis aligning with set risk appetites and overall risk exposure.
  • Maintain relevant Canadian legal entities' risk registers.
  • Oversee the Square business unit's Incident Response Program for Canada in line with regulatory requirements, including development of detailed program for incident risk mitigation as well as incident detection, communication, recovery and remediation
  • Ensure clear reporting procedures in place and train all lines of defense on escalation procedures.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of risk management systems including escalation and reporting processes.
  • Oversee all outsourced risk management processes and thirdparty service provider relationships.
  • Work closely with other second line of defence functions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders for compliance and effectiveness testing as well as independent audits
  • Advise the relevant board of directors on risk appetite statements and exposure limits and the execution of overall enterprise risk management strategies.
  • Preparation and presentation of quarterly risk reports for the relevant board of directors.
  • Preparation of any mitigation or remediation plans for risks falling outside prescribed risk appetites.
  • Engage with and form an integral part of the Canadian leadership team.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with relevant regulators, including management of ongoing notification and reporting requirements

Qualifications:
