Social Impact Assessment Specialist

The Organization:

A.E.W.

LP was formed in 2017 by Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council member communities to carry out "on the ground" work related to archaeology, the environment and wildlife protection.

This work has been made necessary by activities of others within the Nlaka'pamux homeland including transportation, mining, forestry, oil and gas, and utilities projects.

The Nlaka'pamux Nation Tribal Council is not opposed to development within our homeland, but developments and activities must be consistent with Nlaka'pamux title and rights.


The Role:


  • Foster engagement and participation in community outreach and consultation initiatives.
  • Ensure meticulous maintenance of thorough and accurate communication records.
  • Create concise meeting notes to aid in identifying, tracking, and addressing issues.
  • Assist in assembling materials for community engagement activities and events.
  • Undertake background research and analysis responsibilities.
  • Incorporate social, economic, and Indigenous knowledge into impact assessment frameworks.
  • Assist in generating highquality reports.
  • Support the preparation and composition of proposals.
  • Actively participate in company meetings and events.
  • Support advancement of Nlaka'pamux jurisdiction by making recommendations for new policies, plans, and standards over and above Federal and Provincial regulations and standards.

Requirements:


  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant science or social science field.
  • Familiar with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)
  • 58 years of experience in social, economic and Indigenous effects assessments
  • Knowledge of BC provincial and/or federal environmental assessment legislations and process is an asset.

What makes you exceptional:


  • Knowledge of cultures, traditions, and lifestyles of the Nlaka'pamux and how they may be affected by developments.
  • Knowledge of heritage sites and other sites of importance to the Nlaka'pamux and the potential effects of development projects and measures to mitigate these effects would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of environmental science and environmental and socioeconomic impact assessment methods, techniques and practices is an asset.
  • Excellent report writing, communication, facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to build relationships, manage stress and work exceptionally well under pressure
  • High level of proficiency with computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook,)
  • Possesses a strong sense of personal integrity, work ethic and confidentiality.
  • Experience of Indigenous governance and jurisdiction would be an asset.
