Position Purpose
Reporting to the Manager of Catering Services (Manager), the Catering Services Driver (Driver) is responsible for the prompt, safe and efficient delivery of catering orders to our customers providing them with superior customer service.
He/she is expected to operate the delivery vehicle in a safe manner at all times, obeying all rules of the road, and follow all appropriate company policies and procedures.
The Driver will have a "What Ever It Takes" attitude with our customers providing them with professional, consistent, reliable, punctual service at all times.
Major Responsibilities
- Delivery of catering orders, pickup of local food donations, food shopping for kitchen
- Assist with Setup of offsite events
- Maintain cleanliness of delivery vans interior, exterior and delivery trolleys
- Refuel van as required using The Ottawa Mission's gas credit card
- Maintain van usage/mileage logs
- Pick up supplies as requested by Chef or Sous Chef
- Provide support to the Catering Services Department as required
- Provide excellent customer service
- Professional representation of The Ottawa Mission through responsible driving and appearance
- Proper handling and accurate completion of all necessary paperwork related to daily responsibilities
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
- Adhere to all organizational health and safety requirements
- Other related duties as required / assigned by Manager
Other Requirements
Education:
- High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
- Drivers Education Certificate preferred
Experience:
- Delivery experience considered an asset
Qualifications:
- Valid Driver's License with a clean driver's abstract (Must be able to provide a copy of abstract)
- Excellent driving skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work in a very fast paced environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Must be a selfstarter with a sense of urgency
- Must be able to work with mínimal supervision
- Flexibility in work hours, including early mornings
- Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset
Working Conditions:
- High degree of physical activity involving: walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, bending, lifting, driving
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to drive in all weather conditions and all traffic conditions
- Ability to maintain alertness while driving
- Must be comfortable working in a challenging environment that has the potential for confrontation and/or exposure to violence
