Laboratory Technician I - Analytical Chemistry


A Laboratory Technician I is responsible for supporting the laboratory in basic sample preparation and general laboratory maintenance and operation.

They have basic chemistry knowledge and some previous laboratory experience, as well as strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Due to the nature of some of the samples processed in the laboratory, must be okay with strong scents

(Cannabis, agricultural, various bodily fluids).


Reporting and Supervision

  • This position is supervised by the Laboratory Manager
  • This position reports directly to the Laboratory Manager and Chief Science Officer/Head of Laboratories

Key Responsibilities

  • Sample accessioning and preparation (aliquoting / weighing)
  • Sample milling and moisture content analysis
  • Participate in the training program for laboratory assays
  • Perform routine maintenance and documentation
  • Maintain laboratory records and inventory
  • Preparation of chemicals and reagents as required
  • Ensure that safety guidelines are followed at all times
  • Operate with respect to the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and company/client privacy policies
  • Other duties as required/assigned

General laboratory duties

  • Maintaining a clean workstation
  • Daily/Weekly laboratory cleaning duties
  • Washing laboratory glassware and tools
  • Organize and store all chemicals and reagents accordingly
  • General and chemical waste disposal
  • Destruction of completed controlled samples
  • Other duties as required/assigned

Requirements:


  • Diploma / Degree in Chemistry or related field is required
  • Minimum 1 year laboratory experience is required
  • Analytical chemistry experience an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and adapt to changing priorities
  • Strong attention to detail and problemsolving skills
  • Excellent manual dexterity and ability to stand for long periods of time in the laboratory
  • Maintains confidentiality with all information entrusted to the position (PHIA/privacy policies)
  • Must be able to pass WHMIS training
  • Criminal record check will be performed upon hiring

Compensation

  • Fulltime permanent position
  • Starting wage commensurate with education and experience
