  • Andrew Fleck Children's Services is looking to hire a Resource Consultant to work in our Children's Inclusion Support _
  • Services (CISS) program. In this role you will work closely with licensed community child care programs and families in meeting the needs of including children with special needs. _
  • For the first three years, this specific position will work on a special project to expand outdoor play opportunities in natural settings for young children enrolled in AFCS' Forest Explorers program, on a project with the Canadian Centre for Outdoor _

  • As the Resource Consultant your role will be to improve quality participation of children living with disabilities in outdoor play and learning in natural environments, in collaboration with the CCOP partnership, consisting of the Healthy Active _
  • Living and Obesity Research Group (HALO) at the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Research Institute, Andrew _
  • Fleck Children's Services, Algonquin College, and Outdoor Play Canada (OPC). _
  • You will advise and consult with child care program staff, families and the staff of community agencies to develop appropriate team service plans. You will provide formal and informal training to facilitate the inclusion of children with special needs in licensed child care settings. _

$30.56 to $36.14 per hour

In this role you will

  • Support the inclusion of children with special needs by observing, consulting, training and developing effective behaviour guidance strategies to be implemented in licensed child care programs
  • Explore and identify the abilities and needs of children attending Forest Explorers
  • Assess the physical environment and its strengths and adaptations needed to support children with disabilities
  • Identify strategies to improve quality participation of children living with disability in outdoor play and learning
  • Advocate on behalf of children with special needs in the community
  • Develop and provide training to staff, parents, and others through workshops and services
  • Assess strengths of practitioners and adaptations needed to support children with disabilities
  • Support ECE practitioners in implementing new learned strategies as it relates to outdoor learning and play for children living with disabilities
  • Participate in CCOP operational meetings
  • Create resource material to be available to programs
  • Identify needs for public education and provide input to educational programs

To qualify for this role you have

  • RECE, Diploma in Early Childhood Education or Equivalent plus the addition of a specialized diploma/certificate
(Behavioural Science Diploma, Resource Teacher Certificate, Early Interventionist Certificate, or equivalent),
Forest and Nature School Certification (strong asset)

  • Five years experience working with children and families or experience in a related consultant position
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with behaviour strategies in an early learning environment
  • Three years experience working with children with special needs
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of licensed child care programs
  • Experience with data collection/record keeping
  • Ability to take guided initiative and to work in an organized fashion
  • Love of the outdoors and ability to work outdoors in all weather
  • Clear Police Record Check (Vulnerable sector) completed in the last 6 months
  • Strong organizational, time management, group presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to deal with competing priorities
  • Demonstrated sensitivity in supporting families
  • Ability to work flexible hours as required
  • A current driver's license and use of a car essential
  • Excellent Microsoft Office knowledge
