Assistant Natural Resources Technician


Description:

The Assistant Natural Resources Technician for Northwest Solutions Inc will be based in Thunder Bay, ON and work throughout northwestern Ontario.

The work will include a mix of office and fieldwork and include a variety of work with Forestry, Indigenous communities and other natural resources utilizing leading technology and on-the-ground knowledge.

The majority of work will include day trips from town but some overnight travel will be required.

This position has a wide range of tasks associated with it and includes the opportunity to be mentored by registered professionals and learn many new avenues of the natural resources sector.

Salary (Full-time):

$22-30/hour depending on qualifications and experience


Qualifications Required:

• High school diploma
• Glevel Driver's license, clean driving record

Skills Required:

• Outdoors experience in adverse weather/conditions is absolutely necessary
• Adept at problem solving and able to receive feedback in a positive and learning mindset
• Able to work in camp/remote settings with a flexible schedule
• Ability to use and continually learn new technology (ie. smartphones, inReach, radios, drones)
• Communicative and transparent, able to work well with others

Qualifications/Skills Preferred

• Postsecondary degree in related field
• Proficient in reading maps and GPS and perform basic mathematics in the field
• Standard First Aid, CPR-A, AED

- bush road and ATV driving experience

• Desktop and mobile mapping software knowledge(e.g. Arc GIS, QGIS, Avenza)

- experience in plant/tree identification and soil texture classification

• Access to a truck that can transport an ATV (paid mileage, truck radio provided)
