About the role

Specialist Material Compliance - Canada (Entry Level)

Job specification

We are looking for a Specialist Material Compliance to join the Material Management Team. The position will support the characterization and classification of inbound profiled waste/resources to the Covanta Kitchener Material Processing Facility.

Primary function would include the following activities:

  • Analyze and classify inbound waste/resource opportunities according to the relevant safety/environmental legislation and the sustainability heirarchy;
  • Adhere to the facility/corporate Health and Safety Management System
  • Coordinate/communicate inbound waste/materials with operational/production staff
  • Liaise with Sales Force Team/Covanta US Profiling, Solutions and Operations Teams as needed
  • Identification of most efficient reuse/recycling/disposal technologies available for inbound material
  • Management of Data within the CES Environmental Management System
  • Coordinate inbound samples to the CES laboratory
  • Collect and analyze data: identify trends, escalate undesirable conditions
  • Document retention/databasing
  • Assist the production staff for the waste management processes;
  • Draft and present suggestions for process optimization;
  • Participate in the implementation of chosen improvement opportunities;
  • Document processes for test instruments and processes in the lab
  • Review and amend written procedures;
  • Present periodically data and analysis results to plant leadership team
  • Work in teams to resolve process/material related issues;
  • Participate in efforts to select, acquire and qualify new equipment;
  • Communicate your findings through reports, presentations and team discussions;
  • Measure the progress of projects against plans;
  • Report and document issues related to processes or equipment failures.
  • Perform other related duties, as required.

Requirements of the position:

  • Have a diploma, or degree in Chemistry, Chemical or Environmental Engineering or Earth and environmental sciences.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office.
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Good organizational and priority management skills.
  • Ability to lift 20 kg loads.
  • Strong analytical and planning skills coupled with the ability to multitask
  • Detailoriented and creative problemsolving approach
  • Strong team player;
  • Ability to collect, correlate, analyze and report on data from a variety of sources in a timely manner
  • Must be rigorous and detail oriented;
  • Strong English writing skills;
  • Able to work 40 hours per week
  • Valid driving license
  • Previous experience (12 years) in the waste/resource management industry an asset
  • Previous laboratory experience an asset
  • Affiliate/associate of the ACPO considered an asset
