  • The Faculty of Language, Literature and Performing Arts is seeking a Coordinator for the Music Technology Diploma (MTD) program. This position takes effect August 16th, 2023 for an initial one year term with the possibility of an extension for an additional two years. This role has 1.5 sections of time release available for the academic year and the responsibilities for the position are distributed across the fall, winter and summer semesters.

The Role

  • The MTD Coordinator provides leadership, advising and operational support to ensure that the Music Technology Diploma (MTD) program functions effectively.
    Responsibilities
  • As MTD Coordinator, you will:
  • Represent the Technology area within the Music Department and liaise effectively with the Department coordinator and the Director of Performing and Fine Arts;
  • Schedule and chair regular MTD program meetings;
  • Liaise with the Community Music School to ensure cooperation in course offerings and use of shared facilities;
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Performing and Fine Arts and the administrative assistants to organize timetabling, submit roombooking requests, and contribute to the preparation of the annual Education Plan;
  • Contribute to the Department's capital budget requests;
  • Work with the MTD technician, Department coordinator, Director of Performing and Fine Arts, and the LLPA EdTech representatives to ensure program needs for computer resources and educational technology are addressed, and existing equipment maintained;
  • Initiate and oversee updating of MTD programrelated curriculum guidelines and participate in program planning;
  • Provide input to the Director of Performing and Fine Arts in regards to Student Services, Admissions, Marketing and Communications (MCO), and other external units within the College;
  • Contribute MTD programrelated content to Director of Performing and Fine Arts for Department and College publications and websites; ensure that all information is accurate and current;
  • Participate in various recruitment events, in cooperation with the Director of Performing and Fine Arts and in conjunction with Department and Collegewide efforts;
  • Foster connections in cooperation with colleagues with key industry professionals by attending trade fairs and other industryrelated events;
  • Manage program registration and enrolment by advising students, coordinating and participating in annual student auditions and assessments, reviewing requests for PLAR, and facilitating prerequisite waivers;
  • Monitor student progress throughout the program;
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of recruitment initiatives and retention strategies.

To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need

  • A Master's Degree in Music, Music Technology, or other relevant discipline, or equivalent;
  • To be qualified to teach (QTT) courses in the MTD program;
  • To have postsecondary teaching experience in Music or Music Technology;
  • Demonstrated administrative experience in a postsecondary environment or other relevant work environment;
  • To be able to maintain a balanced view of the priorities (academic, creative, and applied) of the Music Department, while supporting and advancing the goals of the MTD program;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills;
  • A demonstrated ability to work well in groups as well as to assume a leadership role;
  • A demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and to meet targets and deadlines.
