    Job Description:

PURPOSE OF POSITION
Accountable for a range of paralegal responsibilities in support of the litigation function of the Legal Licensing Action Team for FSRA


Key responsibilities- Provides legal advice and support to FSRA Market Conduct/Compliance teams on various litigation matters in relation to licensing and technical contraventions in the mortgage and insurance sectors.- Working with Market Conduct/Compliance teams, and counsel, to analyze evidence and information, identify additional information that may be required and advise as to the recommended outcomes.- Actively involved in all stages of administrative proceedings, including drafting correspondence, pleadings, motions, affidavits, minutes of settlement, document books, analysis, corresponding with parties, opposing counsel, and Tribunal staff, and all aspects of file management.- Appears before Financial Services Tribunal to take carriage of matters by conducting hearings on the merits including witness testimony and legal submissions- Responsible for document management including collection, organization, maintenance of document database, coding, indexing, redacting, and assisting with document production and disclosure.- Participates on FSRA project teams and committees to provide input and advice on Legal Licensing Action Team initiatives.


QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience- Completion of recognized paralegal program- Licensed as Paralegal by Law Society of Ontario- 5+ years litigation experience working on medium to complex administrative enforcement matters ideally gained in a regulatory or in-house litigation department.


Knowledge and Skills- Ability to work with mínimal supervision and to prioritize and manage multiple assignments.- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.- Strong advocacy skills including presenting witness evidence and making submissions.- Ability to thoroughly evaluate alternatives, innovate problem resolution, employ a pro-active approach, and take initiative to resolve problems.- Highly organized.- Ability to quickly grasp complex regulatory legal issues.- Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.- Proficiency with e-discovery software is an asset.
